National Get Into Golf Campaign Tees Off

03 04 2012

Get into golf, a national campaign to inspire new golfers and support the plan to make England the world’s leading golf nation, has just been launched.

The campaign is organised by the England Golf Partnership (EGP) which brings together the amateur governing body, England Golf, and the Professional Golfers’ Association to grow the game with the support of the Golf Foundation and Sport England. The EGP’s vision is to make England the world’s leading golf nation by 2020.

Get into golf is run through the network of County Golf Partnerships and features a new-look website and free telephone hotline to highlight the opportunities for all in England. Visit www.getintogolf.org or call 0800 118 2766. Radio and outdoor advertising will support the campaign in some areas.

Newcomers and returners to the game will be offered taster sessions and follow-up coaching with PGA professionals, together with information about club membership and other aspects of the game.

April events also include:

  • A one-day, Get into golf experience at Canary Wharf in London on Thursday, 12 April, when all-comers will have the chance to hit drives and hole putts.
  • A target shoot-out to a floating green on the River Tees, close to the Infinity Bridge in Stockton, on Thursday, 19 April. It’s part of North-East Golf Week from April 16-22
  • Midlands Golf Week and South West Golf Week will both take place from April 9-15 offering hundreds of activities for people of all ages and abilities

Richard Flint, England Golf Development Manager, said: “Golf is a great game for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities – and there’s never been a better time to start.

“Golf is a game for life and a game for all the family. It’s fun, sociable and competitive – and there’s a very warm welcome waiting for newcomers.”

Get into golf is launching at a time when interest in the sport will be at a high, thanks to the US Masters, the first Major tournament of the season, which will be played from April 5-8.
